Okay, time to get serious and set aside for a moment, albeit briefly, the lighthearted fun while making money!
Our society is on the cusp of many potential changes, some of which in time may be of as relatively rapid and as much, if not greater, impact than the wheel or smartphone. Artificial general intelligence, quantum computing, general purpose autonomous robotics and drone swarms, as well as self-driving vehicles to name a few. Of these probable societal step changes, one you may want to add is electric vertical take off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft which may well be a rapid mass transport revolution in the making, and akin to the three Earth based giant technological leaps for humanity in movement so far; namely locomotives, motor vehicles and airliners.
We know humanity likes to travel, be it out of necessity, discovery or simple pleasure. As our society has evolved from hunter gatherers to a more organised basis centred around agriculture and urbanisation, the desire for rapid and efficient movement between locations has grown exponentially. However as our urbanisation has increased, so have the challenges from denser populations such as congestion and time inefficiency of movement. With a continuing trend towards urbanisation and a growing number of megacities, these stark issues continue to compound troublesomely.
Where there is a problem, there is often a solution within the grasp of clever and intrepid people. The solution here potentially being eVTOLs, which appear on the cusp of creating an expansive and cost effective new channel for the rapid and efficient movement of people and goods. Initially a premium service, but in time as manufacturing efficiencies are identified and scale production achieved, together with autonomous aircraft, I expect eVTOLs to become a form of rapid mass local and regional transport and logistics. eVTOLs could offer benefits to our society in the same seismic way of the movement revolutions before it. One day eVTOLs may come to be seen as the fourth rapid mass transport revolution!
